TED KINCAID Bruges 1, 2007
digital color-photograph, 52 x 40 in. Ed. of 3
Marty Walker Gallery presents an exhibition of recent works by gallery artist Ted Kincaid. Kincaid continues to defy our perception of reality with his photographically-based art, while challenging our tendency to believe in a photograph as factual documentation. Although seemingly a plausible representation of reality, a photograph is merely an attempt to capture nature through its own synthetic constructs. Kincaid’s previous artistic trajectory included computer manipulated landscapes, seascapes and cloudscapes that, while not claiming to capture reality, were representations of such. On the other hand, Kincaid’s new photographs suggest the detachment from reality that occurs when translating nature into art, whether through camera, computer, paint, or other medium.
Ted Kincaid has exhibited extensively, with a recent career survey at The McKinney Avenue Contemporary organized by Charlie Wylie, curator of contemporary art at the Dallas Museum of Art. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the Museum of Fine Arts in San Antonio.

BARRY ANDERSON Treebeasties (1), 2007
single-channel HD video (shown in a continous loop)
OTHER GALLERY:
Marty Walker Gallery presents Tree Beasties by video artist Barry Anderson. The single channel HD video features kitschy cut-out faces of cartoon-like humans and animals amongst a fantasy forest of bushes and tree leaves. The whimsical collection of imagery highlights Anderson’s interest in providing “alternative destinations in the remote sanctuaries of religion, nature and even the sensational”. A study of space, both imagined and real, Anderson’s video installation is a ride through his playful vision, cut and pasted from pop culture.
Born in Texas, Anderson was an MFA graduate from Indiana University in 2002. He has exhibited his photographs, videos and installations both nationally and internationally, including solo shows in Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Canada. He currently lives and works in Kansas City, Missouri.
***Glasstire recommended exhibt for the Dallas/Fort Worth area.***
